The Light

This has been a rough year. David Bowie left, Alan Rickman and Gene Wilder, too; the US elections, and now Leonard… I'm trying to kindle the spirit that variety and change can be good things, though at times it can feel like a Test of Faith. Little wonder that one might say:

Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
From: Heaven
by David Byrne, Jerry Harrison

A fairly standard small orange, but with a dark spot on its lower lip.
A mostly-normal red one, with a deformed chin.

Yet, this exquisite mess continues to unfold. And I do still want to see what happens next. So I'll leave you with this:

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
A big round green one, with various discolored dimples.
There is a crack — a crack — in everything
An elongated red peanut one, end towards us, with a fissure running its length, from a cracky pit at our end.
A big blue, with nut exposed, and fragmented fractured shell trying to cover.
That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in

by Leonard Cohen
